A Trip to Salvation Mountain

If you ever visit Niland, California, a desert town of just over 1,000 people in the southeasternmost corner of the state, you’re sure to find Salvation Mountain. The giant, bright relgious tribute is made of over 100,000 gallons of paint and stands 50 feet tall by 150 feet in breadth. Artist Leonard Knight started building the mountain in the 1980s and lived there for 30 years, passing days adding to and caring for his life’s work.

Since Knight, now 82, entered into a long-term care facility in late 2011, concern has been raised for the future of the site. Without constant upkeep, the harsh environment can quickly erode the fragile mountain made of clay and paint. Learn more about the fight to save Salvation Mountain here.

Is This ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’ Set Photo A Massive Spoiler?

Anyone familiar with Spider-Man knows that Gwen Stacy isn’t going to be around in the new film franchise. There are photos circulating of Emma Stone wearing a very similar outfit to one of the most iconic scenes from The Amazing Spider-Man comic series. Gwen Stacy in the exact outfit that the character dies in + filming near a bridge = Gwen Stacy probably not being making it out of ‘Amazing Spider-2’ alive.

I would honestly be surprised if Sony decides to kill-off Gwen Stacy in the second installment of the franchise. ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ introduced Norman Osborn as shadowy figure  in the post-credits scene. The sequel will introduce Osborn as a full character played by Chris Cooper. But damn… it will be a shame if they kill-off Gwen Stacy since the Peter & Gwen romance was easily the best part of the rebooted Spider-Man franchise. Peter & Mary-Jane had such little chemistry in the Raimi films, I was looking forward to Gwen sticking around till at least the inevitable third film.

There’s part of me suspects that this is just a deliberate costume choice by Marc Webb to screw with anyone taking on-set spoiler photos. It’s odd that they are not shooting this scene at night which is the most questionable thing about it all.

Then again, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this classic Spider-Man page replicated on-screen in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’.

The way turtles instinctively set forth towards their new lives is inspiring, they march towards the future. We should all be empowered by our natural instincts to find and achieve our hearts desires.
